In this guide, we’ll explain how to change which page WordPress uses as your website homepage.
By default, WordPress may display your latest blog posts on the homepage. For a business or company website, you will usually want to use a specific page instead.
Before changing the homepage, make sure the page already exists.
To create one:
Home
You can then select this page as your homepage.
To choose a static homepage:
WordPress will now use the selected page as your homepage.
If you want WordPress to display recent blog posts instead:
Your latest posts
Your homepage will then show your latest WordPress posts.
If you use a static homepage but still want a separate page for blog posts, you can create one.
For example:
Blog
Your website can then use:
https://example.com/
for the homepage and:
https://example.com/blog/
for your blog posts.
WordPress requires the homepage and posts page to be different pages.
For example, if:
Home
is selected as the homepage, you should select another page such as:
Blog
for the posts page.
Once the homepage has been selected, you can edit it like any other WordPress page.
Go to:
Pages > All Pages
Find the page being used as the homepage and click Edit.
Make your changes and click Update.
Some WordPress themes and page builders control the homepage using their own settings.
Examples may include:
If changing Settings > Reading does not produce the result you expect, check your theme or page builder settings.
Modern WordPress themes may use the Site Editor.
Go to:
Appearance > Editor
Depending on the theme, you may be able to edit the homepage template, header, footer and other site-wide elements from here.
The exact options available depend on the theme you are using.
Changing your homepage does not always update your website menu automatically.
Check your menu under:
Appearance > Menus
or:
Appearance > Editor
Make sure the correct Home link appears in your main navigation.
Sometimes a theme automatically adds a Home link while another Home page has also been manually added to the menu.
This can result in two Home links appearing.
If this happens, edit your menu and remove the duplicate.
After changing the homepage, visit your main domain.
For example:
https://example.com/
Check that:
If the old homepage continues to appear, your website or browser may be showing a cached version.
Try:
If your website uses a caching plugin, clear its cache after changing the homepage.
You can change your WordPress homepage from:
Settings > Reading
Choose A static page if you want to use a specific page as your homepage, or Your latest posts if you want recent blog posts displayed instead.
If your website uses a page builder or specialised theme, additional homepage settings may also be available.
